About the Artist

Vickie Li, (b. 1990) is a Hong Kong artist based in London. She received herbachelor of science in Architectural Design from Stanford University in 2013.Li dedicates her art practice towards creating imagery to the invisiblepsychological dualities at play within roles and relationship dynamics acrossfamilies and society. Her narrative approach is often in metaphor depictedthrough kinetic figures that are symbolically manipulated with objects tocreate double imageries on the canvas. Combining exquisite linework with rawexpressive drips, Li’s abstracted figures often emote strain, longing andprotection.

The artist refers to herpaintings as immersive performances, as she conceptualizes the viewer toexperience her imageries following a three-act structure in scriptwriting. Thefirst imagery is instinctive, the second is revealed through the title and athird pertains to a sense of space that presents itself in time when one beginsto study the details. Through her stylistic technique of interweaving color-blockingwith shading, it allows her to freely embed figures within to form scenes thatappear momentarily and then disappear.

In 2021, Li debuted her firstbody of works with a solo exhibition titledMan’s Red Flower in H Queen’s, HongKong. Since then, her artworks have been placed into the collections of prominentAsian and Western collectors. She is the founder of HART Haus, an artist studioand residency program established in 2018 that nurtures over 30 artists andlocal talents annually in Hong Kong.
